An Intentional 42km Day
Today I walked 42km. This time it was on purpose. I decided it was time to challenge myself physically. Fem and I started together this morning, because it is nice to have a companion when walking in the dark.
We briefly went off route but corrected quickly. It was the infamous section this morning of 17km with no towns, water, or services. Since we started early (6:30AM), it was actually really cold so the water was not an issue. We passed the time chatting.
Apparently it is here that we passed the halfway point.
At the end of the stretch is a small town with a coffee shop, which is probably killing it based on location. Well deserved coffee there!
We pressed through the next 10km together in one push, and that is where Fem would stay for the night. I took a long break with iced coffee before prepping to press on alone for another 13km. Mentally preparing for the heat and loneliness of afternoon walking. I left shortly after 1pm to finish my day.
After 3km, in the next town, I bumped immediately into Janelle! She was alone too, so we walked together to Sahagun. So much for lonely! We got groceries and made a meal together. Aside from the walk to the store, I didn’t explore this town at all. I just wasn’t feeling it today.
My albergue is nearly empty. I think I managed to land in the middle of the standard itinerary, and it is a ghost town in here. It feels much more private. Hopefully it also is more quiet!
