Day 19 – Mansilla de las Mulas to La Virgen del Camino

Fast Food and Car Dealerships

I met Kailey and Beth at their albergue this morning and we walked together to Leon. I wasn’t really feeling well. I think perhaps the coffee served at my albergue was overly caffeine-y? That kind of nasty ‘tastes bad and gives you a headache’ kind of coffee. I can’t say the walking was pleasant. I did 27km today, and if you look at Leon on a map… the development is about that wide! We basically walked next to highways, through industrial areas, through car dealership land, and through many suburbs before getting to ‘historic town center’.

This is where, over a coffee, I parted ways with my friends, as they planned to stay in Leon. I took a quick walking tour of historic town center.

My Grandma said I should get a picture with the guy on the bench in front of Casa Botines, so I did!

I walked the final 8km to La Virgen del Camino…which is right by the airport… so still not exactly ‘out of the city’, or particularly scenic.

Luckily there is a kitchen here.

I grocery shopped before arriving, then just didn’t leave! I made a huge pasta dish, then napped, then ate more pasta. Not exactly a challenging afternoon!

Tomorrow I will officially walk out of the Maseta! It has been a trying but important time. I have mixed feelings about its end.
