Hill Climbing Fueled by Chocolate
The Albergue this morning was so pleasant, I decided to not be in a rush. I slept as late as I could, then enjoyed coffee until most folks had departed.
I didn’t leave until 9am. It was still quite chilly, which was actually welcome.
Only a few kilometers into the day, I encountered something new…hills! What are those anyway? They were small ones, but still!! Where have these been?
The approach to Astorga is quite scenic at first, but then dissolves into a long industrial approach. I decided to check out the chocolate museum… Do I need to explain why? It was neat! There was a video explaining how all the old machines worked. There were samples.
I bought a bunch of chocolate.
I went to a grocery store for fruit, and I found a squeeze your own orange juice machine!!! Amazing.
I walked just a few kilometers out of Astorga. I really wasn’t feeling the ‘big city’ vibe. There is a small Albergue here in Valdeviejas. Apparently this is not a popular choice, most everyone stays in the city, so I’ve got a room to myself! Whooo!
Tomorrow I get to climb mountains.
