Day 24 – Molinaseca to Pieros

There is Always a Castle

The mode I seem to be in these days is that I don’t like the big cities. Walking through them seems to take forever, and walking through suburbs and industrial areas around them isn’t fun. I began walking at 6:10 this morning, through the suburbs of Ponferrada. I arrived in the city before 8AM, and found a cafe that was open that happens to be right at the castle. I enjoyed an espresso doble, watching the sun rise over the castle. (There is always a castle).

From there I made good time through the suburbs on the far side. There were some nice views back towards where I came from.

I ran into Kailey and Beth again! I saw them a couple of times today. They are staying in Cacabelos, where there was some sort of festival happening today. I got a little bit lost in the street festival. I did find the grocery store to get some BRIE cheese though!

One Euro!!

My main mission at the store was to find ‘sandwich sized’ ziplocks… Which I’m sure you can picture. While what I found was bocadillo bags! Ha! They are extra long so they fit the baguette sized sandwiches.

It was a hot road slog to get to Pieros, where I planned to stay for the night. It is a vegetarian Albergue. It has a cute, laid back vibe and a mediation room. The Host practices shiatsu. The dinner was amazing! Also, Fem, from way back before Leon, showed up! We brainstormed for the next 2 days and came up with some good options. Mainly focused on food. It’s always about the food.
