Day 27 – A Beso to Mercadoiro

Things Are Getting Fancier

Once again it was just a beautiful morning. Just so incredible. I left exactly the right time such that it was just light enough to see. The landscape and views were stunning all morning.

I was walking alone, and I walked by a small fruit stand that was donativo. I poked my head in and it was a little garden with couches and gathering areas. So many people I knew were there!? The Germans from Rabanel, Benjamin, even Donna and Laura from way way back who I haven’t seen in weeks. Crazy!! So random to see all these different people in the same place as the same time.

I walked with Laura and Donna all the way to Sarria, where they were stopping. I passed through Sarria and began the afternoon slog to Mercadoiro. I missed an arrow and ended up off route. Luckily, Google maps helped me rejoin the route without back-tracking. Today was 33km. The afternoon was long, but the trail is so beautiful in this area. It is well shaded, it was only 22C, the path is dirt or Stones, there is grass everywhere. The character of the route has changed so much.

There is a notable change in available lodging. There are a lot of fancier options in this last 100km. Today I am staying in a place that looks like a fancy rural hotel, but there is a small Albergue building that only costs 12 euro (vs. whatever a private room probably costs!) I picked this place with Fem during our planning a few days ago because there was supposed to be a great view. No lie! I’m currently parked in a lounge chair overlooking mountains.

We plan to try the Queso Cebreiro.

….

The cheese with honey was interesting and definitely good!! The sunset view was great! It got chilly eventually so we headed back to the room to finish watching the sunset. There is a huge Bay window in the bedroom that faces sunset. Hopefully an early sleep tonight!
