The Weather These Days is Perfect
Check out wasn’t until 9:30 this morning so I took full advantage and slept in. Leaving at 9:30, it was fully light out but still quite chilly. I met William at the cathedral to bid him farewell. I went down to the pilgrim office just to see how long the line was to get the compostela… It was many laps through the building long. I had a feeling this would be the case.
I went around the corner for a coffee and then set on my way to the coast. It felt weird at first, like I was going the wrong way or something. Very quickly though I found my groove and just felt happy. The paths were mostly through the forest. It was nice. I’m good at this walking thing now. You take steps, and eventually you get there.
I took a halfway stop for coffee (of course) and then powered up the big hill for the day. It felt good. My other shin is starting to hurt…
Go figure.
There was a neat bridge, in Ponte Maceira, where I had a little picnic. It was really cool, you could get down to the river itself and explore on the rocks. Very pretty!
The Albergue tonight is quite charming. There isn’t much else around, it’s Sunday and I’m on the outskirts of Negreira. They gave me a bowl and let me use their microwave for my food. I got here at 5 and it was pretty quiet. That is usually late for a pilgrim arrival, but a whole bunch of people showed up at 6:30 and 7 – people who spent a little more time in Santiago.
The weather these days is perfect for walking.
