The Dark is a Bit Spooky.
Early start this morning, and from a ‘non-standard’ (i.e. not on the classic guidebook itinerary) town…so it was deserted! It was actually kind of scary until I got to Estella and the sun came up. Before that, it was dark and quiet and spooky.
The route out of Estella was speckled with walkers. Many were stopped for a taste at the wine fountain.
(Yes, a wine fountain.)
I met a girl named Kailey (not sure how she spells it) and we got talking. She is from Colorado but it turns out she had been living in my old home town for the same 5 years as me!! In a neighborhood not to far away. AND, she had been to a meetup for the same group I was part of, AND she knows one of the members, who has since moved out West, who I ALSO know. Weird!
I was feeling really strong in the cool morning air and I got all the way to the halfway point (which is also the top of the hill!) by 10:30AM. I had coffee and tortilla. The final 13km were a bit harder, as it was a blank stretch (no towns or services) between towns, and it seemed to go on for a very long time. It was very, very pretty though.
I arrived in Los Arcos and found an Albergue. I opted for the meal in the Albergue for dinner. Lentils! I explored the town a bit. So much Stone everywhere.
