Day 6 – Los Arcos to Torres Del Rio

Today Was Kind of a Hard Day.

I think it is maybe the first day I feel ‘away from home’. It has been over a week since I left. I think the ‘week’s vacation’ normalness has worn off. I’m just… away from home now.

I have been pretty demanding on my body for the last week. With no adjustment period, I asked that it suddenly walk over 25km per day, in the heat. From experience, I know it is important to listen to my body. I decided to take a rest day. However, since I’m not in a big city, it is a little more challenging to stay in one place for two days. There is only so much lodging. Therefore, my rest day was actually 8km of walking. Very easy, flat walking though.

I slept as late as possible.

I was woken up at 7:00AM since they close the Albergues at 8:00AM. I went across the street to the cafe for some coffee and to relax. Rest day, right!?

I had two coffees, and met some nice Canadians. We walked together most of the way to Torres Del Rio. I was here by 10:30AM. Very early! I explored a little, though the town is very small. I ran into Inge from Holland, who I met two days ago. She is also staying the night here. We hung out for some time until I checked into my Albergue at 11:30.

This is where the day becomes hard for me. I feel lonely even though there are people everywhere. I am not good at just relaxing and killing time. This is one of my personal growth goals on this walk, but it doesn’t mean I have it down on day 1! After a failed nap, I have spent most of my day in the restaurant, with coffee and snacks. It is 30C here, but this restaurant is pretty ‘cool’.

I’m going to go try to find somewhere to do some stretching. There has not been much grass for several days now. Just stone, and farm fields. It is kind of unsettling for me. I’m trying to embrace it.

I wrote all of that earlier today. Inge gave me the password for the WiFi at the hotel she is staying at. It was strong enough that I was able to call Jacob. I didn’t realize how much I needed to talk to him. I feel much better now. After talking to him, I took a shower and it is now much cooler out than earlier. I feel refreshed. I walked to the ‘top’ of town to look for somewhere to do stretches. No grass to be found, but I used the path, and the sunset view was incredible. The pictures do not do it justice, but I tried!

Tomorrow I will go to Logrono.
